Beach + Music + Food = Summer
June 3, 2008 by admin.
Memorial Day unofficially kicks off summer, according to many people. The summer solstice on June 20th is the official start of summer for the fundamentally inclined. Ask a kid when summer begins and you will be told enthusiastically that it starts the minute school ends.
For a variety of reasons, I have a looser set of criteria. No calendar is involved with my methodology. First, I trade in jeans for capris. Second, the suede mules are replaced by sandals. Next, we go to Dairy Queen (luckily, Cliff’s is open year-round). Weeding and planting, after dinner walks without a flashlight, ladybugs landing on our shoulders, and the smells of grilled food throughout the neighborhood all follow.
The beach at Horseshoe Lake beckons, and the car is loaded up with folding chairs, towels, and canvas bags bulging with everything necessary for a few hours on the beach.
This year marks something different for our town and another opportunity to kick off summer in a way that will surely appeal to many of Roxbury’s residents. On Friday, June 27th, at 6PM, the Roxbury Arts Alliance and the Roxbury Field of Dreams will host a BBQ Beach Blast concert to benefit both organizations’ missions. Tropical Storm will perform while The Outback and Cliffs Ice Cream will be serving the delicious food that they are known for. Tickets are $5 each, and children under 10 are free. The food will be sold, with proceeds going to benefit the RAA and the Roxbury Field of Dreams as well. Parking is free and, in case of rain, the concert will be moved indoors to the gym at Horseshoe Lake.
Come to Horseshoe Lake on the 27th for a fun way to start the summer off with a twist - and don’t forget your beach chairs and sandals.

Remembrance
May 23, 2008 by admin.
On Monday, members of the Roxbury Arts Alliance will participate in the Memorial Day Parade in Roxbury Township. The parade begins at 9AM on Hillside Avenue at Lincoln-Roosevelt School. The parade route continues along Main Street to Eyland Avenue and concludes with the Memorial Service at Horseshoe Lake park at the Veteran’s Memorial. We are proud to join with the many township organizations who are involved with the parade as a way to remember the men and women who have served our country so honorably.

Re-Birth
May 20, 2008 by admin.
As of Monday,
We have some new faces in our group, some familiar ones, and some we parted with. After 10 years as an organization, we have grown accustomed to the personal changes that are inevitable over time.
The important things remain - our mission, our enthusiasm and the value of volunteering. This new website reflects all of these elements, with room to grow.
We invite comments here (keep them constructive, please!) and attendance and participation at our upcoming events. Check back regularly to hear from us.
